Excitedly Nervous in Houston

I'm a 54yr old divorcee who is being told by everyone not to have the surgery because "I'm not that obese". I know I am a big beautiful woman but I also know DNA doesn't lie. If left unchecked I would fall into the early grave of my relatives. So drastic times call for drastic measures. At 250lbs, metabolic syndrome, arthritis in my back and sleep apnea I would classify this as a drastic time. I have two grown children and no grandchildren. A doctor in Lagos Nigeria told me last year if I didn't lose weight I would not ever see my grandchildren.
So it's time to get busy living or get busy dying.
I'm a little nervous about the surgery so coming to this community has been a tremendous blessing. I look forward to posting my success and being an encourager as so many have done for me!

You've come to the right place for support. These people on here are amazing. I must tell you grandkids are wonderful, they are a reason I'm getting sleeved. I want to watch them grow up.

Thank you Kathy! I'm glad you caught the origins of my quote. Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite movies of all times. So many life lessons in that movie. I'm am about to really Get Busy Living. We are a week apart in our surgeries so I hope we keep up with each other. Yippeee! I'm so excited for the long term opportunities this procedure gives us.
I will keep you posted my Sleeve Sister. Lol!

It was my therapist that kept telling me I was "too small" for surgery. God knows I have spent years learning how to camoflauge my body. But seriously, all my weight is belly fat, I look perpetually pregnant, from the side. I can bend over in the entry to my bedroom,and my ass shuts the door every time - so don't tell me i'm "too small". I bet she can't do that with her skinny a$$!

Rox you are hilarious!! Not only are you funny but you're also speaking my truth. I have had this perpetual pregnancy for far too long!! I'm shedding this baby starting next week. And All the naysayers have a very broad surface of mine to kiss today. Next year might be another story though. Lol!

@Froo72. Thank you so much for the note on Dr. Ferrari. He was quite rushed my first and only visit with him. I see him on Monday for the second time and my surgery is on Thursday. I was approved for surgery a lot faster than expected I think. You have put my concerns to rest.
