I'm from Lansing but working with GHP in Grand Rapids. I have my first meeting with my suregon, Dr. Baker, on Nov. 1! I excited and nervous at the same time. It is so encouraging to see so many people positive about GHP and the surgery in general!

Hi Derek,
I have not been sleeved yet; however, I've seen a lot of posts here about hitting a "stall". It seems to be very common. Some have recommended adjusting your diet. take a look around for 'stall' threads - they have a lot of advice from those who have hit that period and been able to jump start their weight loss again.
good luck,
erin
I'm from the Grand Rapids area - Grandville to be exact. Working with GHP. Still going through the 6 months of doctor supervised weight loss (not losing) required by my insurance through GHP. Not sure when surgery will be but late February or March probably.
I work with GHP too and was sleeved 9/30 by Dr. Baker. GHP is amazing! They have been great! My only suggestion before surgery is to get an ultrasound of your gallbladder. Rapid weight loss can exacerbate an already problematic gallbladder... point in case...I'm recovering again from surgery a week ago to have that removed! It has actually slowed my weight loss! That being said, I'm 56 lbs down in 12 weeks so still extremely happy I was sleeved!
SKMI - wow - that is a remarkable amount of weight loss in such a short time. That is very encouraging for me. Did you have to do 6 months of doctor supervised weight loss before surgery? My insurance is requiring that, so my surgery will be in late February or sometime in March (I think).
Thanks for the tip on the US of the gallbladder. I will make sure to do that. Although it doesn't seem to be problematic, better safe than sorry!
It is the Spectrum medical group and I will have the surgery at Blodgett in GR. The support group meets the first Monday of the month in GR at 6:30p. I am planning on going this Monday. I have gone once before. You are welcome to go as it is open. Some of the people have had surgery years ago and some are pre surgery like me. Everyone is SO nice and I was just amazed at their journeys. A lot brought their spouse and some just themselves. Where are you having your surgery and when? Next Monday is the night before mine on the 7th...yikes!!! It would be fun to meet and be part of a local group on this journey. It is SO inspiring.
I'd really like to go to that group. Can you give me details on where they meet? It's kind of lonely going through this without any support so it would be wonderful to meet people that have been there or are going to be there (surgery) soon.
