I do have a question hoping anyone can say something about that... ok, when I went to the surgeons appoiment he mentioned to me that I will chose to remove my gallbladder because this may become a problem later, sooo.....
I have needed mine our for the last 13 years and they wouldn't take it out with any of my last 3 weight loss surgeries....so if they want to take it....let them....mine still gives me hell
you don't need your gallbladder.....most people have to have them removed eventually...google what your gallbladder does for your body and then decide
no problem...good luck with your decision
I asked my dr sleeve dr about it bc I had read that it was common to have to have it removed after a drastic weight loss. He said he didn't want to unless there was a problem but they always do a sonogram to check it out before surgery. I had never had any symptoms, I thought, but I had two or three gall stones. He said since I already prone to gall stones, did I want to have my gall bladder removed before. I of course said could he please do it at the same time since my friend had hers done at the same time as her WLs and with he same dr office, his brother in fact. But he said he preferred not to. I won't go into the battle in my mind over that but I had my gall bladder removed a month before my sleeve surgery. If insurance is involved it works out better to have it done in the same year of course.

I've had my gallbladder out after I had a baby, which is more common than you'd think. The pain when I was having stones and such was horrible and I'd much rather be pushing out a baby than going through it. But on the other side, there are some down sides to not having it. Warning, this may be TMI. =)
I rarely have solid stool. In general that doesn't bother me, I was told by my surgeon at the time that he had that issue too... But I was prepared for the fact that when you have to go, YOU REALLY HAVE TO GO! There is no holding it until the next exit or waiting till you get home. When you have to, you must go immediately and the consequences are not pleasant or fun. And even though everything is diarrhea, there is normal and then there is explosively painful, which I experience more often too.
I don't really regret having it out, but I'm not sure I'd elect to without symptoms. However, there is a very big likelihood that you'll end up back in surgery soon after which also doesn't seem fun. But, you could also be fine. =)
So it's really up to you, I was just giving my view on it. =)
I'm having my gallbladder removed as the same time as my sleeve surgery. It's really what led me to do the sleeve right now. I had been having a lot of problems with my gallbladder and ended up in the ER Thanksgiving mooring after extreme voting for 16 hours.
My insurance doesn't cover WLS of any type and I needing my gallbladder removed really gave me an opportunity to get the sleeve at a more affordable price. I figured they are already in there, already needed anesthesia, already in the hospital so surely it has to cost less for a 2fer ... My surgeon gave me a deal at half price. Otherwise I would not have had a prayer at getting it done.
I just hope it's not much more recovery.
A lot of times when you have a large weighloss you end up having to get your gallbladder removed so I would say do it all at the same time.
