    Default The hard truth

I feel like I can be honest here and I really feel like I need to tell someone how I've been doing. I stop every morning on the way to work and get a Large Water with Lemon from Sonic, and sometimes I order a jr. burito and eat the egg and meat out of it. Then throughout the day I eat my protein, sugar free pudding and jello, BUT I have eaten a cookie, let a piece of chocalate melt in my mouth, and I even ate some dessert at a work celebration today. I am so ASHAMED and the scale even went up this week. I even took a few sips of soda. I feel like I am subconciously sabotaging myself. I have not been over 650 calories in a day, but I probably have never reached my protein goal. I sip all day on the water and then G2 at home. I really do not feel dehydrated, but when I eat a "meal" I feel like I want to vomit and sometimes I do. Could the G2 be causing me not to lose, because it has sodium?? Any words of wisdom are welcome. I am not proud of this post but felt like maybe someone out there had experienced something similar and could help.

So, you made a few mistakes here andd there. We got obese as a result of years of ingrained bad habits. Even with the majority of our stomachs cut out, we cannot unlearn those habits overnight. You're doing the right thing by coming here for support. Do not be ashamed. Be proud of how far you've come, and remember to keep your eye on the prize!

Seems you know all the right things to do but we are human and NOBODY is perfect all the time. Just try to get back on track and keep your eye on the prize as Sunflower said.

I've done the same, and felt badly. But this I know for sure. A post sleeve "slip" doesn't even come close to the fanfare I used to do to myself physically and mentally with a pre sleeve binge. I try to forgive myself and move on. Passing up the cookies or chocolate has gotten easier with time. Persistence, not perfection is my goal.

Don't sweat the small stuff. I don't know about you, but I'm not going into this thinking that I will never ever again have a desert. I'm going into this with specific goals and one of those goals is to have a healthy relationship with food. For me, that means every now and then I'm going to have chocolate. I'm going to go get a fancy cupcake. The difference is, before I'd buy a dozen cupcakes and I'd be the one who ate 6 if not 9 of them.

It's about moderation. Beating yourself up for perceived mistakes is going to end up being a self fulfilling prophecy. You are going to stress about it, then you are going to go back to your old habits to comfort yourself and then things are just going to keep going that route. You've realized that maybe (and I do say MAYBE! =) are over indulging. Step back, track and make sure you aren't just making mountains out of molehills.

You are 26 days out and have had 4 instances where you feel like you failed? To me that seems like a success. You've had 22 days where you've gotten it right! =)

As to the throwing up, I'm getting sleeved next week so I don't have any words of wisdom other than to parrot what other people have said in other threads. Are you eating slow? Not drinking before/during/after? Chewing very very very well?

33 pounds in 26 days is awesome though! Good job. =)

Try not to be so hard on yourself. Honestly, I eat alot of junk food still, just in tiny portions-- and I keep loosing!! Slower than others, but still....
I decided not to try to change my whole way of life (eating totally healthy) because I had done that before MANY times and I always revert back to bad habits, so why do something that doesnt work again -only to be disappointed when it doesnt work again? I also am not exercising...yet. I did join the gym last week because i am beginning to feel like exercising now that I have lost 40 lbs. But I havent gone yet! LOL

I also suspect I may loose interest in junk foods the healthier I get, so I am going to let that happen naturally. If I only loose half way to my goal, and stay there, I will be very happy with myself for the rest of my life. I am praying I don't gain it all back one day, but if that starts to happen, then I will look at what I am eating more... I have accepted that might happen and I am not desperate to be skinny. I just want to be healthier and happier, and I already am after just 40 lbs gone. I am off blood pressure meds and I can climb on the playground with my 4 yr old - including fitting my big ass on the slide! I even went ice skating last night! it feels great to not get so out of breath so fast. You should have seen me racing around the rink like I was some hot shot LOL - I got some great exercise AND it was fun

I;ve considered getting the RnY if I want to loose more or start regaining. I don't want to worry about WHAT I CAN NOT eat. I've lived with that feeling all my life and I am done with it. Sure-- I make sure I get alot of protien in - I make sure I DO eat good things TOO - but if I want a cookie, I have one -- with out guilt.

Take it easy on yourself, sounds like you are being human. My NP told me we didn't get this way overnight and we won't change overnight either. This is a very slow process. There are so many things to learn and try and practice as we get used to our new plumbing. I had my sleeve back in July during a very stressful time and for a while, it made it easier to just not think about food, and plan ahead basically on what to drink When your body is not getting good nutrition, the cravings are outrageous, I also found it was easier to think about whatever I ate would be OK in tiny "thimble size quantities.. The reason they push the protein is so yo don't accidently starve yourself, damage your organs and lose crucial muscle mass. I love food and a month out fro surgery I would have slit my throat rather than think i would have chocolate or "whatever" ever again. In some respects yo ay have lost too much weight so soon for such a short time.
Think of what your body needs for fuel and what do you truly enjoy eating NOW. For me a lot of things taste god, bt don't feel good after getting down there or trying to come out. You may want to go back to liquids for a while. At that point for me, I could never get in more than four ounces sipped slowly over fifteen-twenty minutes. I used decorative 4 and 8 ounce glass canning jars for soups, juice, and 8 ounce bottles of water. I also had been a long time Herbalife user and still feel that their protein drinks, aloe powder and drinks and meal replacement shakes are superior. I can't imagine the post op period without them. But the key is quantity. A half a cup of shake is plenty. Freeze a bit in the jar and let thaw or eat with a smooth. unsweetened juice popsicles are also great. eat or drink every 2-3 hours while awake and then if you have a bite of Reeses peanut butter cup it is not the end of the world and you will be satisfied with that because your body has what it needs and you won't get sick or vomit or go hungry. You also won't ruin your surgeon's careful work. Your body is still healing and you have a long scar on your tummy that won't do well with soda poured on it. You have a second chance with a whole new body. If you lost 2 pounds a week and had superior nutrition with a healthy life, you wold be happy. Be well and take care, I appreciate your honesty.

Well, each and every one of us deal with our food issues differently. First I want to tell you there are no food police on here and no one will attack you for the choices you make. The changes that we are going through are exactly that---changes---for me, I wish I could take a pill once a day and call it good---but that is only in movies--(Soilent Green---anyone remember that movie?) Anyway, back to topic---FOR ME---I get all my proteins in pretty much every day, I also do not keep me from being normal. It would not be my life if I didn't have a cookie or some chips occasionally. The difference is I might do just one cookie or maybe not the whole thing. I am finding that the more I walk this new life style that has been given to me---the more I really don't care about all the "old" foods and junk I used to eat. Fact is that I am going to always be around unhealthy choices---it gets down to exactly what you talked about. I don't like feeling guilty - no one lays that on me but me, and being my own worst enemy, it can be paralyzing. What might help is that if you are inclined to have a piece of chocolate or whatever, go with just half of what you think you want. That is a suggestion I got from a friend, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Good luck with the journey---we are here for you, the only person judging you is you---and remember you are not alone. Blessings Connie

First off, quit feeling guilty!! That will be way more detrimental to your new way of life more than anything!! You didn't eat a whole bag of chocolate, or a gallon of ice cream!! You just had a few tiny snacks! Here's my take on this... the more I tell myself no, the more I want it until it's all I can think about! My MAJOR weakness is chocolate!! Good thing for me will be the chocolate protein shakes. They normally take care of my craving, but if not, I'll have a cookie, AND NOT FEEL GUILTY! As long as I don't do it every day, and even adjust the rest of my meals to allow for the calories. I love my homemade choc. chip cookies, so what I have done is cut their size in half. Everyone else will eat 2 or 3, but I have just one.

I found this article, and it makes since to me. At least it makes me feel better about how I plan to approach this new life style!!
