    Default Protein Drinks

So I have started trying protein drinks to find one that I will be able to drink when I have to do the liquid diet and for after my surgery. Last week I tried Walmart's brand of Ensure the Vanilla flavor, and well needless to say that wont be happening. It didn't taste horrible at all, it was really thick and sweet. But my problem was an hour later I wanted to hurl so bad it wasn't funny. I had to fight not to let it all come back up and visit me. So I was like ok no go on that one (now I gotta get rid of the 5 left over) a co-worker who had gastric by-pass surgery over 8 years ago gave me one of her Vanilla Muscle Milks to try. So I tried it this morning and couldn't even choke down half of it, it was also too sweet and thick. And about now I am starting for freak out about this because I know drinking this will be a have to thing when I finish my "Change" classes in the next 4 weeks and for the first few weeks to a month after my surgery. I am hoping that maybe it is just the Vanilla flavor ones that I have an issue with, and plan on trying another flavor and brands to get one I can stomach. What has worked well for you who have gone through this????

Premier Protein Shakes! Buy them at Costco and you get 30 grams of protein in one shake. I have been drinking those for months. The actual Ensure brand I did not mind either or the Glucerna. But for me, I wanted low carb, low sugar and high protein and the Premier Protein fits the bill on all of those.

I agree that some of the proteins are just WAY to sweet!! I have been making my own mixes, I have an unflavored protein (IsoNatural) and I get those water flavorings (Nesfruita orange mango is my favorite) and I make a smoothie with that - ice, nesfruita, unflavored protein and water. That way you can control the sweetness. Or you can get some good quality vanilla or vanilla bean paste or powder, make your own vanilla shakes with skim milk, and add as much or as little sweetener and you want.
Right now, as I am two months post op, I am drinking a smoothie with two scoops of the protein, coconut milk, frozen pineapple, banana and nesfruita Very tasty.

I just got a jar of the Nectar Lemonade stuff. Quite tasty. Kina like Crystal Lite I imagine you could add plain lemon juice to make it less sweet. Also just ordered a variety pack of the Nectar fruit samples to see if there's anything else that's as good. You can get it at health food/supplement stores or on line.

I switched to unflavored protein powder because the flavored ones are just too sweet & sit like a rock in my stomach. I got the 10-pound bag of Now Sports unflavored whey isolate from Amazon & it's terrific. Absolutely no flavor & it doesn't make what I add it to too thick.

That sounds really good! I have tried a couple of high protein powders and so far I like the Isopure. It's not as sweet. I got a membership to GNC and find the prices to be a little cheaper that way with a discount and free shipping. They also have some really good sales! I looked at a lot of different online sites and GNC was very competitive. They also have an unflavored powder that I am going to try also, that way I can make it any flavor I want. I do want to try it before I have surgery though.

Way back when...when I got my lapband I used Profect. They were 2 ounce clear liquid protein "shots". They didn't taste the best but they were so small it didn't matter.
I ordered some more for my revision surgery in 2 weeks.
